• This exploration has led me to deeply appreciate the importance of empathetic listening. People have a fundamental need to feel heard and understood to fulfil their desire for significance. Arguing with people is often fruitless, as it tends to make them more defensive.
• By tapping into individual's intrinsic motivations and suggesting solutions that align with their desires, we can more effectively elicit desired behaviour change.
• These are key concepts that are prominently highlighted in the field of motivational interviewing.
