Martindale The Complete Drug Reference
Introduction
Although Martindale is not always my first port of call when comes to finding drug information (purely because of its sheer mass of detail), but it is the reference that I will use if I can't find much information in Lexicomp or British National Formulary.
Drugs Name Coverage
Moreover, Martindale is the leading resource in terms of international coverage, with 43 countries covered. It contains the international and street names of most drugs/medicines and should be considered when trying to identify drugs from overseas.
Content
It was first published in 1883 under the title "Martindale: The Extra Pharmacopoeia". Today, it contains
- Over 7500 drug monographs and
- Over 270000 preparations (including herbal, diagnostic agents, radiopharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical excipients, toxins and poisons).
