Martindale The Complete Drug Reference
Introduction
Martindale: The Complete Drug Reference is a comprehensive and unbiased resource for information on medications used worldwide.
- Renowned for its objectivity, reliability, and global reach, it remains the leading international reference for pharmacists and healthcare professionals.
Contents
Since its first publication in 1883 as "Martindale: The Extra Pharmacopoeia", the reference has grown considerably. Today, it offers:
- Over 6,600 monographs on drugs and ancillary substances
- Over 200,000 preparations (including herbal, diagnostic agents, radiopharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical excipients, toxins and poisons).
Moreover, Martindale surpasses other resources in terms of international scope, encompassing information from 43 countries.
- This makes it invaluable for identifying medications used overseas, including both international and local brand names.
Summary
Although Martindale is not always my first port of call when comes to finding drug information (purely because of its sheer mass of detail), but it is the reference that I will use if I can't find much information in Lexicomp or British National Formulary.
