One at A Time

Introduction

My mother once told me, "When walking under heavy rain with an umbrella, hold your bag in front. It is easier to protect one side than both."

  • The simple analogy applies to our daily lives as well.

Tackling Problems

Our minds become overwhelmed when several things happen at once and demand our attention.

  • Instead of questioning why things happen, focus on finding solutions.

My approach is to first list down the tasks and prioritize them based on urgency.

  • Alternatively, I tackle quick fixes to clear my mental clutter.
  • With an organised plan, problems become manageable and you gain a clear direction to work towards.

Changes in Life

Even the biggest changes begin with tiny steps.

  • It is the accumulation of small, consistent steps that makes the difference.
  • Remember, Rome was not built in a day.

Ladders to the Sky

Do not be overwhelmed by the final goal; start with one step at a time.

  • Often, our own worry can turn possibilities to impossibilities.

SMART Goals

As a guide to formulating annual or other goals, consider using acronym SMART.

  • Specific.
  • Measurable
  • Achievable
  • Relevant
  • Time-framed

Consider these time management ABC's so that you devote sufficient energy to achieving the established SMART goals.

  • Plan each day in writing by breaking large projects into small, management parts.
  • Maintain a clean desk and work area to minimize visual distributions.
  • Create an efficient workspace with frequently used items in easy reach.
  • Recognize the 20/80 rule of thumb, that is, 20% of the input to a process produces 80% of the results.
It's Never Too Late to be What You Might Have Been.

Focus

Attention to details is a crucial life skill, especially for pharmacists who safeguards patients (customers) from potential harms.

  • Every dispensed medication requires meticulous attention to patient names, drugs and dosages.
  • To minimise medication errors, one should focus 100% on the task at hand. Put aside unfinished Korean dramas until your shift is over!

Final Words

As we age, we become less easily bothered.

  • It is not about forgiveness, but acceptance of life's imperfections.
  • To be exact, facing disappointments and failures when we are young prepares us to handle them calmly as adults.

This life is a journey ending in death.

  • Nevertheless, always strive to do what you believe is right and live each day to the fullest.
