Introduction

While drafting the Drug Album project, I considered creating a list of medications requiring refrigeration.

  • This information could theoretically simplify the process of locating unfamiliar drugs.

My research revealed several key points:

  • Refrigerated medications are primarily injections, including insulins, vaccines, immunoglobulins and biologics.
  • Storage conditions can vary between brands of the same medication. For example,
    • Fludarabine injection can be stored under refrigeration or at room temperature depending on the manufacturer's labeling.
    • Although Dalacin C (Clindamycin) injection require refrigeration, others can be stored at room temperature.
  • Storage conditions can also vary depending on the dosage form.

      • Capsules: Store below 30°C.
      • Drops and Solution for injection: Store at 2-8°C.
    • Busulfan (Myleran)
      • Tablets:Store below 30°C.
      • Injection: Store in a refrigerator (2-8°C)

  • Brands denoted after # are those that do not require refrigeration for the given medication.
  • This list does not include in-use stability data (including post-reconstitution). For example, some medications, like insulin, can be stored at room temperature for a short period after removal from the refrigerator.
  • Consult the product leaflet for specific recommendations on room temperature stability (generally much shorter than refrigerated stability) and in-use stability data (including post-reconstitution).
